· SCRIPTORIUM SCRIBBLER: Since the time he was able to pick up a pen Justin knew that he would be a writer. Periodically since 1998 he has released an underground ‘zine known to initiates as The Dyslexicon. His poetry has been published in both national and regional publications, most recently in Silk Milk Magi-Zain. His essays have appeared in the anthologies, Counry at War, GODless and 1st Hand Stories from 2nd Hand Stores from Aurore Press. Since the tail end of 2008 Justin has been a frequent contributor to the independent music website Brainwashed.com In 2009 his novelette Trepa nning For Gold received an honorable mention in L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future contest. Other writings have appeared in the online journal of contemporary occultism, Silver Star. To date he has completed one novel, a young adult fantasy, written for his daughter called, Lucy’s Catnip Quest. His patron saint is Thoth.
· CRYSTAL RADIO TRANSMAT OPERATOR: In the year 1999 Justin began moonlighting as a radio broadcast programmer on the pirate station Anti-Watt of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio where he was the cofounder of the Psychedelicatessin show (offering weekly specials sandwiched between two stereo speakers). From 2001 to 2003 his affiliation with WAIF 88.3 FM began as one of the rotating hosts of the Art Damage show. Since 2004 he has been a regular programmer of On the Way to the Peak of Normal and at the beginning of 2010 he took the helm of this show as lead programmer. His areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, hyperspliced audio collage, and live electronic improvisations all supplied with a warm friendly voice. His knowledge of music along with key selections from an ever-expanding musical library, ensure a lively and entertaining weekly show.
· AUDIO ALCHEMIST: Justin has been a coconspirator in many musickal endeavors to overhaul the old formulaes. Active in the 1990’s Cincinnati cassette underground recording under the moniker Sadistik Undertones, bric-a-brac plundered sound collages were committed to tape for later playback under hallucinatory conditions in an attempt to create freewheeling mimetic associations during heavily dissociated synaptic activity. Notable success for these trip enhancement tapes was achieved, so much so that due to overzealous playback, the original masters have deteriorated severely. In 1997 he was instrumental in forming the psychedelic space folk trio, Astral Surf Gypsies, along with Daniel Anthony Ezekiel Niehaus and Paul Spaite. Recording memorable numbers like “Beatnik Blues” and “Schizophrenic Insects”. The group dissolved into the Aethyr for a period of time but was later reformed as a duo. In 2004 the Polish label, Bunkier Productions, released the second Astral Surf Gypsies album “Breath of the Rat Lady”. It has subsequently received widespread distribution on the internet via the ever cheerful torrent community. Justin has been a member of the electronic improvisatory group Neato Torpedo since 2002, playing many local shows within Cicninnati’s experimental and avant-garde music communities, in such dens of iniquity as the Contemporary Arts Center, the Southgate House, and the Art Damage Lodge. Justin also creates solo music under various names, participates in numerous side projects and just-for-fun basement sessions. His music has appeared on The Last Signal compilation from Independent Opposition, and on the CD/DVD for multimedia magazine Silk Milk (issues #2 and #4). He has also recently participated in a global musick collaboration project with the Order of Chaos, the CD of which is due out in 2010.
· INTUITIVE VISUALISER: Visual manifestations of internal experiences are a primary mode of expression. A recent black and white collage, “Frontisilkhemy” forms the frontispiece of Silk Milk S p o o l #4. Explorations of fractal geometry form the cornerstone for an ongoing series of works started in 2010. Much of his visual art could be said to be a part of the “folk” and “found” traditions: painted hubcaps, using window frames as canvases, trash picking for basic materials. He often does paintings and/or collage over top of other peoples paintings, having found the originals on the curb or at flea markets. His sense of intuitive design is also expressed in the layout of The Dyslexicon, which often employs extensive use of collage technique. Several of Justin’s works are in private collections.
· HYPNOGEOGRAPHIC CARTOGRAPHER: Justin is deeply engaged in the study of astral geography. This involves taking extensive notes during and after hypnagogic dream travel, the mapping and modeling of hitherto unexplored areas of inner landscapes, studying how these correlate with the ever evolving astral world and that worlds interaction with physical reality. Sometimes this involves dangerous travel into neighborhoods and countries no one would normally wish to be in, but such is his dedication to the research that he allays his fears in service to extrasensory science. Travels include sight seeing trips to alternate dimensions, voyages to the under- and upperworlds, remote viewing, and serving as a guide during the exploration of foreign cities on alien planets. These areas are frequently documented on the Sothis Medias blog. As part of his work in this realm he has founded The Society for Multidimensional Art Concepts, or S.M.A.C., which also is an acronym for the allied group, Sothis Medias Arts Collective.
