Silver Star Radio 5 Promo

On the Way to the Peak of Normal | Posted by jmoore
Jun 23 2011
Silver Star Radio number Five is nearly here. The Pentacle is about to be completed. Streaming to you live from inside the Reality Studios at 88.3 WAIF FM in Cincinnati, this magickal star of a radio broadcast splinters into the four cardinal directions from the wand of our antennae transmitter while encompassing the entire Earth in the magnetic glow of the Dreamtime. Listen live tonight, Thursday June 23rd, 10PM to Midnight EST at the above location on the dial or here on the web: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/waif-cincinnati

Featuring a live performance from Cincinnati’s long time experimental-electronica outfit, NEATO TORPEDO, they will permeate the air with their discombobulated improvisations. Joining us is special guest, the indefatigable Dave Lynch on Sitar, Overtone Flute and Ocarina amongst other sundry noise making devices. Another Mystery Guest friend will be joining us on Mini-Moog. Along with the core members Brave Dave on bass & electronics, 8Fold on myriad antique & boutique electronic devices, Android Hissett on drums, bass, percussion, and myself Justin Patrick on circuit-bent keyboards, tapes & electronics.
This episode also ties into the launch of “156=Musick” a global collaboration between members of The Hermaphroditic ChaOrder of the Silver Dusk, released just a few days ago on the Zoharum label in Poland (other groups on the label include Inner Vision Laboratory, Bisclaveret, and Hoarfrost amongst others). A long time in the making, with many spurts, flirtations, halts, gasps, and supportive strokes along the way, it has finally come, seeding the astral plane with the minglings of our multivalent musical emissions. The album is dedicated to the memories of John Balance, Peter Christopherson and Kenneth Grant, pioneers of magick and musick.
Other features include an invocation from Aion’s Liber Sigil A IAF (Waning MoonPublishing) and music from Babalith’s new album Huni Kui. We’ll probably also play some Coil to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Loves Secret Domain, released in July of 1991. And we’ll also play a piece from our good friend Erik T. Lawson, from a compilation he appeared on dedicated to John Balance,“Full Cold Moon – A Tribute to Jhonn Balance and the Music of Coilâ€, Otherwise we’ll just be up to some Paganarchist mischief.

So spread this message to your friends near or far and gather round the campfire radio as we dose you with another blast of Esoteric Radio Activity.

Justin Patrick Moore

P.S.:  And the podcast version of this episode will be up within the next week… so stay tuned.

I can’t resist a good book sale. And since I work at Cincinnati Public’s Main Library I of course had to pick up a handful each day of the week long sale. I got some doozies! Some I’ve read before, some not. Every year at this time my book collection gets larger, not that it doesn’t all year round anyway. But in June, I always get a bunch of goodies. Here are the gems added to my library from this years sale:

The Scar by China Mieville
Prince of Annwn by Evangeline Walton (for my Druid studies)
The Children of Llyr by Evangeline Walton (also for my Druid studies, both are part of her Mabinogion Tetralogy).
Walden & Other Writings by Henry David Thoreau
Shaman by Sandra Miesel (Sounds like an awesome SF novel about an emerging Shaman, Otter like people, and parallel realities.  It has a great cover, see above).
The Memory of Whiteness by Kim Stanley Robinson (always a favorite author).
In the Drift by Michael Swanwick (Another fave writer).
A Short Sharp Shock/ The Dragon Masters by Kim Stanley Robinson & Jack Vance respectively (A TOR Double).
Surrealism and The Occult: Shamanism, Magic, and the Birth of An Artistic Movement by Nadia Choucha (I read this great book a few years ago, and am now happy to have my own copy. Highly recommended.)
The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner (a classic in the field).
All About Ham Radio by Harry Helms AA6FW (A book I’ll be using as I work towards getting my Technicians license for Amateur Radio).
Walden West by August Derleth (Some of the nature/localist writings of this author best known for his Lovecraftian stuff).
The Lore and Language of School Children by Iona and Peter Opie (Great scholars of nursery rhymes as well. This one is another nice hardbound from Oxford press).
Storycather: Making Sense of Our Lives through the Power and Practice of Story by Christina Baldwin (I read her book Life’s Companion, about journal keeping when I was 22).
